Urban Camping

Seemingly a redundant question. Camping in a tent in Tel Aviv? And following 2011 (a summer of social unrest and demonstration started with an activist pitching a tent in Rothschild Avenue)? Ridiculous.

And yet...

Wouldn't you want to sleep by the Colosseum in Rome? If so, you can camp at Camping Village Rome eight kilometers away.
Or camp by the Louvre in Paris? You can choose Indigo Camping Paris at the Bois de Boulogne located several kilometers away.
Or wake up in a tent by the Alexanderplatz in Berin? So sleep at the Scuba Park Columbia situated not far.

In many cities in the world, the urban environment offers a wide array of possibilities. Camping grounds, where one can stay in a tent, car, caravan or truck and stay in an area of urban nature, offer an opportunity of experiencing city life in a social, immediate and appealing manner.

Camping-based tourism is a well-established option, used by many travelers.

In Israel, camping is associated with staying in rural areas or the beach. Camping grounds in Israel are situated in nature preservations, beaches along the Mediterranean, sea of Galilee or the Dead Sea, and similar locations. Camping as urban tourism, both for local and international visitors, doesn't exist. Staying in a family tent at the Jordan River Park - definitely; staying in a family tent at the Yarkon River Park in Tel Aviv - really?

During July, the ZEZEZE Architecture Gallery will become an urban camping site in a 'prime location' - a central leisure area in the city, by the shore, during the local summer holiday. During July, visitors and tourists may come and pitch a tent at the gallery, using it as a base for trips and tours of the city, its beaches and sites.

During the week, the gallery will host a series of campfire talks with camping visitors and invited guests, to discuss the city, camping and tourism.

We invite you to explore with us the boundaries of the gallery's functions, place, content and time while exploring possibilities of city borders, life-style and urban camping.
